The Sun Valley 2006 Mt. bike trip was an epic adventure lead by Erik Alston.
I set out on the Thursday before the big week with a drive to northern Idaho to drop of the grandpuppies at my parents place. Then on Saturday I headed east on I-90 to Missoula Montana and then south on hwy 93. Along the way I relived skiing at Lookout Pass east of Coeur d'Alene, river rafting on the Middle Salmon outside of Salmon Idaho, and fighting forest fires for the Forest Service in the Clearwater creek wilderness area.
Then I ventured in to new territory south of Salmon Idaho. I followed the Salmon river as it wound through a beautiful river carved valley, through sun bleached hills, pink and red rock cliffs, pine forests, and small towns. The drive was beautiful. I wish I had more time to stop and take photos but I probably wouldn't have gotten anywhere soon with all the beautiful photo opportunities.
I arrived in the Stanley valley around 7pm and decided to camp at Alturas Lake in a primitive camp ground along the lake. I took a short walk to explore the lake and then settled in for a good night's sleep before meeting up with the rest of the group at Easley campground. From there the 5 day mt. biking adventure would commence.............
