Blue Bay is a yacht club but there is also a Mexican campground along the Purificacion river and a small beachside resteraunt. It was a holiday weekend so the place was packed with Mexicans on holida. The mouth of the river was filled with families and children playing in the water. Dave told me that there aren't any crocodiles in the river. This would probably explain why so many people were calmly swimming in the mix of freshwater and saltwater.
Laurel and I put on our snorkel gear and headed out. The water was still cloudy but we were able to view a variety of fish. I also saw a Snowflake eel. It was coiled up on the sand below me with its mouth opening and closing. It looked sinister, but small. I tried to get a photo of it but I kept getting moved this way and that by the waves.
Afterward I boogie boarded down the river. When we were walking on the shoreline to where the river mouth transitioned in to the mangroves a million little crabs scurried this way and that around our feet. There were actually pink ones as well. Very weird to see the ground moving all around us. Then I headed for the surf for a few rounds in the waves with the boogie board. Nothing to exciting.
Then it was lunch beachside with Dave. Blue Bay is a unique bay with the river coming in to it. The lower part is lined with parched jungle and the upper part transitions in to Mangrove. The campground is really non developed and people just park anywhere. There are palms throughout the campground for some shade.
