GREEN RIVER CLEANUP: HELP NEEDED
SAVE THE DATE!
THE 24th ANNUAL GREEN RIVER CLEANUP IS MAY 1, 2010!
Bring your friends! The biggest, oldest, best river cleanup in Washington State is organized by Washington Recreational River Runners (WRRR) and Friends of the Green River (FOG), with many other organizations and government agencies as sponsors. The Green River Cleanup has recently been held mainly on the mainstem Green River between Auburn and Black Diamond. The Cleanup is expected this year to cover the Green River at least from Tacoma's property (its closed watershed) upstream of Kanaskat-Palmer State Park to several miles below Flaming Geyser State Park. In its first few years, the Cleanup occurred at more locations on both the Green and Duwamish Rivers and occurred on more than one day. We would like to expand the Green River Cleanup again to include as much of the Watershed as possible.
OPPORTUNITIES FOR GROUND CREWS
People who want to help clean up the Green River along its shores should wear clothing which protects legs and arms from blackberry bushes, sturdy boots or shoes with non-slip treads, and work gloves. You may need a stick or rake to retrieve trash stuck in blackberries. Trash bags and sign-in sheets are available from Cleanup leaders at Flaming Geyser State Park.
MAIN CLEAN-UP -- GROUND CREWS
If you, as an individual, or as part of a business or organization, etc., wish to participate as part of a ground crew picking up trash in the May 1nd Green River Cleanup on the Middle Green River, contact Pat Sumption at 206-525-1708, patsump@juno.com
Then, come to Kanaskat State Park, on Saturday, May 1st between 9:30 AM and 11:30 AM. We'll sign you in and help you choose an appropriate site nearby.
BRANCH CLEANUPS
If your group wishes to organize your own "branch" Cleanup, that would be great! For instance, if you belong to a Creek Group which works to protect a creek that is a tributary of the Green-Duwamish River, and want to do a Cleanup on that tributary as part of the Green River Cleanup, let us know so we can help you.
If an organization wants to do a Cleanup on May 1, but doesn't want to come to Kanaskat on that day to sign in and to get instructions and trash bags (because you plan to work on a part of the river that’s far from Flaming Geyser, let us know in advance and we'll get you sign-in sheets and plastic trash bags ahead of time. After your event, let us know what you did, where you were, who participated (send us the sign-in sheets), and how much trash your group gathered. State Parks, King County, and others want to know what a great job we're doing.

BOATERS’ INFO
The Green River is rated a class 3-4 in the Gorge, so we expect boaters to be trained experts with a support group. Come with your boating club and have your own club waiver form as well as signing in on The Cleanup’s form.
